Modern Allusions
There are many modern references and allusions to the god Hermes/Mercury. Most of them are associated with Hermes/Mercury to represent its swift movement and quickness. The examples in the following are just a few among many.
Video Games: Final Fantasy - Final Fantasy (ファイナルファンタジー) is a media franchise created by Hironobu Sakaguchi in 1987, and is developed and owned by the company Square Enix (formerly Square). The franchise centers around a series of fantasy and science fantasy role-playing video games (RPGs),and includes motion pictures, anime, printed merchandise, etc. Although most Final Fantasy games are supposedly independent stories with different settings and main characters, they feature identical elements that define the franchise. Recurring elements include plot themes, character names, and game mechanics. Plots are mainly centered on a group of heroes battling a great evil while exploring the characters' internal struggles and relationships. Character names are frequently named after the history, languages, and mythologies of cultures worldwide.

Anime: Sailor Moon - Sailor Mercury (セーラーマーキュリー) in Japan, is a fictional lead character in the Sailor Moon media franchise. Characters transform to fulfill their duty of protecting the Solar System and evil. She possesses powers associated with water, is highly intelligent, and can use a super computer to collect information on various battle factors.
Automobile brand: Mercury - Mercury is an automobile brand of the Ford Motor Company launched in 1938 by Edsel Ford, son of Henry Ford. The name "Mercury" is named the god in Roman mythology because of the car's great performance.
Astronomy: Planet Mercury - Mercury is the closest planet to the Sun in our solar system. It is also the smallest, and its orbit is the most eccentric. It orbits the Sun once in about every 88 Earth days, completing three rotations about its axis for every two orbits. The planet got it's name from the Roman god Mercury, because of the planet's swift motion and quick rotations. The symbol it uses is also the same as the symbol used to represent the god Mercury.

Such as medical thermometers, especially those for high temperatures, are filled with mercury. And so are fluorescent light bulbs. This element is extremely toxic and must be handled with care if spilled.
